Ram Charan and director Sukumar officially launched their second film together on Sunday, November 1, with a traditional pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. Tentatively titled RC17, the project arrives eight years after Rangasthalam — and almost everything about it is still under wraps. Here are five things we do know.
- The reunion eight years in the making. RC17 is Ram Charan and Sukumar’s first collaboration since Rangasthalam in 2018, the rural drama that became a major commercial success and reset how audiences saw Charan as an actor. The working title is a straightforward one: it is Charan’s 17th film as a leading man. That numbering alone tells you how much weight the makers are putting on this pairing.
- A launch with the family front and centre. The pooja ceremony was held in Hyderabad on November 1 at 10:50 AM, with Megastar Chiranjeevi attending as chief guest and performing the ceremonial first clap to bless his son’s new film. T-Series head Bhushan Kumar switched on the camera, while producers Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar and Tabitha Sukumar presented the script to the makers. It was a formal, traditional start — the kind of launch that signals a production of real scale.
- A poster that refuses to give the game away. The announcement poster shows Ram Charan’s face worked into a peacock feather, painted in broad strokes of blue, green and gold, under the tagline “You Can Imagine, but beyond everyone’s expectations.” The artwork has set off a wave of fan theories, with some reading a breezy love story into the feather and others predicting a period or mythological drama. What the poster pointedly does not do is confirm any of it.
- Three banners, one pan-India bet. The film is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with Sukumar Writings and T-Series, and is being mounted as a high-budget pan-India production, with T-Series also holding the music rights. Cinematographer R. Rathnavelu is on board, according to reports from the launch. With that combination of banners behind it, RC17 is being positioned as an event film from day one.
- Almost everything else is still open. The final title, the female lead and the supporting cast are all yet to be announced, and production schedules are expected to follow the launch. Even the composer is unconfirmed: some reports expect Devi Sri Prasad, reuniting the Rangasthalam music team, while others name Anirudh Ravichander, and the makers have confirmed neither. The shoot will commence soon — but for now, RC17 is a poster, a pooja and a promise.
