Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra has been hospitalized and placed on ventilator support, according to an NDTVreport released Monday. The 89-year-old star was reportedly admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital about a week ago after experiencing breathing difficulties. Further updates on his condition are awaited.
The hospitalization comes just weeks ahead of the veteran’s 90th birthday. As per reports, Dharmendra’s health condition worsened over the past few days, leading to his transfer to the ICU earlier today. ABP News reports that the actor’s condition became critical this morning, though he is said to be “responding to treatment.” Several family members, including his wife and actress Hema Malini, have been visiting him frequently. However, no official statement has yet been released by the hospital or his family.
Earlier reports from IANS suggested that Dharmendra had initially visited the hospital for a routine check-up but remained admitted for further observation. On November 3, Hema Malini had briefly commented on his health, indicating that he was doing fine at the time.
Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most enduring icons, was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He is also slated to appear in Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat, and in Apne 2 with his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and grandson Karan Deol.
