India’s independent hip-hop scene just made its biggest crossover yet. Emiway Bantai, the rapper who built his name outside the film-industry system, has released his first-ever Bollywood song — “Choozay” from Udta Teer, the Ayushmann Khurrana–Sara Ali Khan spy comedy releasing October 23.
The track is composed by Sachin-Jigar and co-written with Amitabh Bhattacharya, with Emiway joined by Jigar Saraiya and Ayushmann himself in the video. It’s a genuine two-way crossover: a Bollywood soundtrack leaning on a bona fide indie-rap star, and an indie star finally stepping into the film-music mainstream.
With Udta Teer staking its release date right after the Drishyam 3 box-office storm, a track with Emiway’s built-in audience could give the film exactly the kind of street-level buzz it needs.
