Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse scored a record-breaking launch in India where itbroke the local all-time opening day record for an animated movie with $610,000 while releasing on a non-traditional Thursday. The opening day gross is higher than the total weekend gross of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Little Mermaid. The film also set records in India for an animated movie with the widest release ever (2,000+ screens) and the most languages at 10 – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, and the original English.
In North America, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse made $17,350,000 for Thursday early shows making it the second highest preview gross of all-time for any animated film behind Incredibles 2 and the second highest preview gross for any Spider-Man film behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a current 96% critics score and 98% audience score.
