At the recent SIIMA Awards, veteran actor Kamal Haasan confirmed that he and Rajinikanth will soon collaborate on a new film, thrilling fans who have long awaited their reunion. Speaking on stage after receiving an award for his performance in “Kalki 2898 AD,” Haasan stated, “This has been a long time coming,” and explained that both actors have always wanted to work together again. He said, “We don’t know if it’s a tharamana sambavam (wonderful occurrence), but it’s good if the audience likes it. If they’re happy, we’ll be happy too. Otherwise, we’ll keep trying.”
Haasan clarified that any sense of rivalry between the two stars was a misconception, stating, “It’s the audience who imagined the competition. We never had any between us. We always wanted to produce each other’s films. Business-wise, it might be a surprise, but for us, it feels right that it’s finally happening.”
While further details on the project remain undisclosed, there is speculation that acclaimed director Lokesh Kanagaraj may helm the film. Kanagaraj, who previously worked with Haasan on “Vikram,” has publicly expressed his interest in bringing both legends together on-screen.
This collaboration will mark the first time in decades that Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth will share the screen, their last joint appearances being in iconic classics such as “Apoorva Raagangal,” “Moondru Mudichu,” “Avargal,” and “16 Vayathinile” during the early stages of their careers. The announcement is seen as a major milestone for Tamil cinema and is highly anticipated by fans and industry watchers alike.
