Coke Studio’s new Pakistani platform Nu.WAV has released its second song, ‘Rangeen’, bringing together Hasan Raheem, emerging singer Izzchugtai and Karachi-born producer Umair. The track follows ‘Dil’ by Afusic and Zoha Waseem, which launched the platform earlier this month.
‘Rangeen’ is a love song built on a cheerful, danceable beat, with gloomy lyrics that sit in deliberate contrast to its vibrant sound. The music video, directed by Arham Ikram, opens during Basant in Lahore and plays out as a colourful daydream, with Raheem imagining an entire romance with a woman he spots on a neighbouring rooftop, only for the fantasy to unravel at a wedding. A shehnai in the outro brings the story’s turning point home.
Nu.WAV is Coke Studio Pakistan’s artist-first offshoot, executive produced by filmmaker Kamal Khan, with artists pairing up with producers of their choice across six songs. With Afusic and Asim Azhar among the names on the roster, the platform is shaping up as one of the most closely watched music stories out of Pakistan this year.
