Emraan Hashmi and Himesh Reshammiya are working together again on Afsaana Banaaya Aapne, the first song released from Gunmaaster G9. The title invites a look back at their mid-2000s film-music run, but the video puts a new pairing in front of the camera: Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh.
The track is sung by Reshammiya and Asees Kaur. Reshammiya is also credited with its music and lyrics, while Meghdeep Bose is listed for production and arrangement in the song video’s published credits. The release gives an action-romance a softer introduction through its leads rather than opening with the film’s action.
Hashmi, Reshammiya and director Aditya Datt previously worked together on Aashiq Banaya Aapne. In comments reported at the song’s launch, Hashmi acknowledged the nostalgia but said the song has its own place in Gunmaaster G9. That is a useful distinction: the reunion is the hook, not a claim that the new song recreates an old hit.
Deshmukh appears opposite Hashmi in the video. She called it her first time working with him, according to the same launch report. Gunmaaster G9 also lists Aparshakti Khurana among its cast, with Datt directing and Soham Rockstar Entertainment presenting the film.
For listeners who remember Hashmi and Reshammiya’s earlier collaborations, Afsaana Banaaya Aapne offers a familiar combination. Whether it stands on its own beyond that memory is something the song, rather than its title, has to answer.
