The Drishyam 3 box-office tsunami has claimed its first scheduling casualty. Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer, which was slated to release on October 9, has been pushed back by two weeks and will now arrive in theatres on October 23, 2026. The makers made the call within 24 hours of Drishyam: The Conclusion’s record-shattering ₹62 crore-plus opening day, which devoured screens and showtimes across the country.
In an official statement, the makers framed the shift as a strategic move: “Udta Teer has been generating encouraging buzz with its trailer and ongoing promotions. With the film tracking well, the makers have made a smart and sensible theatrical call by moving the release to October 23, giving it a cleaner release window and a stronger theatrical runway instead of compromising on screens in a suddenly crowded marketplace.” Directed by Akash A. Kaushik and produced by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, the film casts Ayushmann as a Pakistani agent who loses his memory and believes he is part of India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad — an espionage satire mixing mistaken identity with action and comedy.
The math is hard to argue with. With Drishyam 3 racing toward the ₹100 crore club on day two and its second weekend expected to stay fierce, the October 9 slot would have meant fighting for screens against a genuine box-office storm. The new October 23 date buys the film a clearer runway — though the month’s calendar is stacking up, with Luv Ranjan’s Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar reportedly targeting the same date. For now, the Drishyam effect stands as the clearest sign yet that the industry expects Vijay Salgaonkar’s farewell to dominate theatres for weeks.
