Salman Khan’s war drama Maatrubhumi could finally be on its way to theatres this year. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial, which co-stars Chitrangda Singh, is reportedly being viewed by the Central Board of Film Certification this week — a key final step before a release date can be locked. According to sources close to the project, the makers are eyeing either Diwali or Christmas for the film’s theatrical arrival.
The film has had anything but a quiet journey to this point. Originally announced as Battle of Galwan, it underwent a title change and reported reshoots after concerns were raised over its initial anti-China stance. While some reports recently suggested the revised version had received clearance from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, a source close to the project denied the government ever stopped the film, calling such reports “mere speculation.” The insider added that Salman Khan’s films have traditionally been family entertainers, so no major objections are expected from the censor board.
If it does land during the festive season, Maatrubhumi would enter the year’s most competitive corridor, where festival weekends have historically powered the industry’s biggest openings. For Salman, whose theatrical record depends on event-scale releases, a Diwali or Christmas window would be the natural home. An official announcement is expected once the CBFC process is complete.
