A scare swept through Mumbai’s Film City on Monday evening after a fire broke out at a temporary set of Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising over the Goregaon East complex, and videos of the blaze quickly went viral on social media — but the Mumbai Fire Brigade confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
According to the fire brigade, the Level-1 fire was reported at 4:02 pm behind Reliance Media Works and Prime Focus, and was fully doused by 4:55 pm. The blaze was confined to electric wiring, cables and fittings along with doors, wooden planks, AC units, bamboo, plastic items, sound systems and shooting equipment inside a PCR unit on a 100×20-foot temporary set. Fire brigade teams, Mumbai police, BMC ward control and 108 ambulance services all rushed to the spot.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) confirmed the incident, with president BN Tiwari describing it as a minor fire and attributing it to carelessness despite safety warnings issued after a previous fire at a nearby location. He stressed that the incident should serve as a warning to all production teams to take adequate precautions against such accidents.
Early reports suggest the fire may have started on the nearby ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga 2’ set before spreading, briefly disturbing the shoots of MTV’s ‘Hustle 5’ as well. The good news for fans: the damage was minor, no one was hurt, and shooting on ‘Ramayana’ — one of 2026’s most awaited films — resumed soon after the blaze was brought under control.
