Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 has a new character poster — and this one carries four decades of nostalgia. Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic 1987 television series Ramayan, has been unveiled as King Dashrath, the King of Ayodhya and Rama’s father.
The poster shows Govil seated on an ornate throne in regal attire, unveiled with the caption: “He once brought Ram to life for a generation. Now, he returns to the world of Ramayana as the King of Ayodhya.” For viewers who grew up on the Doordarshan classic, watching the man who embodied Ram now play his father is an emotional full-circle moment.
The two-part epic stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Part 1 arrives worldwide on November 5, 2026 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with Part 2 targeting Diwali 2027.
