Ramayana has crossed Rs 105 crore in worldwide advance bookings, two days before it arrives in cinemas on November 5. Reported figures from the morning of November 3 put the film’s India advance gross at Rs 58 crore, with Rs 27 crore of that coming from opening-day bookings alone, and close to 15 lakh tickets sold across the country. Overseas pre-sales have added around $5 million, including more than $1.5 million from paid previews in the United States, which begin on November 4, a day ahead of the worldwide release.
The pace of the final stretch is striking. The film added more than Rs 20 crore to its India pre-sales in the preceding 24 hours, and premium formats are doing heavy lifting: IMAX accounts for roughly a quarter of total advance sales despite occupying only about 4 per cent of screens. The film had already passed the pre-sales of the Hindi versions of Animal and KGF: Chapter 2 by November 2, and trade observers are now watching November 9, the day after Diwali, when a single-day haul of Rs 100 crore — the feat Dhurandhar The Revenge achieved earlier this year — is being talked about as Ramayana’s first target.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the film releases in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English, including in IMAX 3D. Part 2 is slated for Diwali 2027. With two days of advance sales still to run, the opening is no longer a question of whether it will be big — it is a question of how the post-Diwali holiday treats it.
