The Income Tax Department carried out simultaneous search operations at around 12 locations across Mumbai on Monday, September 28, in a development that has sent ripples through the film industry. The premises are linked to actor Rakul Preet Singh, her father-in-law and veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani, and production house Panorama Studios, with a separate search also reportedly underway at filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar’s office.
According to reports, the action followed information that substantial sums were allegedly remitted overseas under heads such as film shoots, foreign distribution and production expenses. Multiple IT teams examined documents and financial records at offices and other premises across the city, investigating whether the transactions involved tax evasion or other financial irregularities.
As of the latest updates, the operations were still underway and no official conclusions have been announced. It is important to note that the searches are part of an ongoing investigation and do not by themselves establish wrongdoing.
