Asim Azhar is the voice of the latest release from Coke Studio Nu.WAV. The song is called “Maheya,” and it is a slow, aching love song about losing yourself in someone.
Asim sings it alongside Aaryan, with producer Rovalio also on vocals. The lyrics are credited to Aaryan, Asim Azhar and Kumail Abbas, and the music to Asim Azhar, Azhar Hussain and Rovalio. Rovalio also mixed and produced the track, and Sean Tallman mastered it. It is released under the Coke Studio Pakistan label.
The words circle around longing and distance. The narrator talks about tears that are really memories, and keeps coming back to one line: he has lost his life in this love. Asim’s voice carries most of that weight.
Nu.WAV is Coke Studio Pakistan’s newer platform, rolled out in September, with Kamal Khan as executive producer. It pulls in a younger group of artists and more modern, produced sounds, and it has already split opinion among longtime fans. “Maheya” is Asim’s turn on it.
