With only a few days left for Shah Rukh Khan to return to the screens with Pathaan, fans are excited to see the superstar in an action avatar. The actor also stars alongside Deepika Padukone who takes on an action role in a very long time. SRK and Deepika are returning to the screens again following several blockbusters including Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express and Happy New Year.

In a video interview with Yash Raj Films, Shah Rukh Khan was seen praising Deepika Padukone. He said, “You need someone of the stature of Deepika Padukone to be able to pull off a song sequence like ‘Besharam Rang’ and then to be able to do an action where she takes a guy pulls him and tie to herself and beats him. She is tough enough to do that. I think she is tougher than me in the action scenes. So, that kind of a combination could have only been achieved with someone like Deepika.”

He added, “And then this whole emotion thing, there are two-three sequences in the film where you get to know why is she this balancing act of not knowing if she is good or bad. And then there is a huge vulnerable side to that character. Being an action film obviously we cannot go too deep into it and keep on following that approach because when you come to see an action film after 10-12 minutes you want to see action or some thrill going on.”

He concluded, “But I think there is enough for Deepika. To be extremely likeable, vulnerable (in a nice way not because she is a female) and very strong. So, physically she has to look like that and still be feminine. So it’s quite a layered character for an action film ‘heroine’ so to say.”

The first song ‘Besharam Rang’ has seen polarizing responses on the choices of clothes of Deepika Padukone. The song is picturised on the beaches of Spain where the actress is dressed in swimsuits, especially saffron colour. While netizens have called out misogynistic reactions to the choices of outfits a woman should or should not wear, certain sections are calling out for a “boycott” of the film.

Pathaan is set to release on January 25, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
