R Madhavan is heading back into horror. The actor will headline an untitled feature film directed by Vishal Furia, the filmmaker behind Lapachhapi, the Chhorii films and Maa, with shooting expected to begin in 2027. The project will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under Frostlit Production Limited. No title, supporting cast or plot details have been announced yet.
Furia said Madhavan was his first and only choice for the role. Calling him the true horror star of the cult classic 13B, one of his favourite films of all time, the director said Madhavan had already started getting into the world of the film. Together, Furia said, they want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror — the kind of fear they will feel in their bones.
Madhavan’s horror credentials run deep. 13B, released in 2009, developed a cult following for its unsettling premise, and his turn as the menacing Vanraj in Shaitaan in 2024 reminded audiences how chilling he can be as an antagonist. He also made a surprise cameo in Furia’s Maa, but this is their first full feature together with Madhavan in the lead. The film also arrives as Furia completes a decade in the industry in 2027 — and with Madhavan recently seen in Dhurandhar, it keeps a busy run going for an actor who has never been afraid of the dark.
