Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer is back in the news as the second trailer dropped today, just ten days before the film’s October 23 release. The Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment film keeps generating talking points — from an India-Pakistan premise to a heartfelt tribute to a late actor. Here are the five things you need to know.
- It is a spy comedy built around a bizarre identity flip. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani intelligence operative who enters India on a covert mission but loses his memory after an explosion. Convinced he is now an Indian officer, Bilal identifies himself as part of India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad — and starts protecting the very country he was sent to undermine, while his former handlers across the border try to make him remember who he really is.
- The second trailer is out now, and the release is October 23. The film was originally dated for October 9 before retreating to October 23 amid a crowded release calendar. The new trailer leans harder into the chaos, with Ayushmann’s comic timing front and centre and Sara Ali Khan as a CTS officer adding to the film’s energy.
- Ayushmann calls it “India’s first patriotic comedy.” Producer Guneet Monga Kapoor addressed questions about the film’s India-Pakistan theme and its release in the UAE-GCC markets, while Ayushmann pitched the film as a first-of-its-kind patriotic comedy — an espionage satire rather than a chest-thumping flag-waver.
- It is Mukul Dev’s final film — and the team calls it a swan song. The actor, who died in May 2025 at 54, is featured prominently in the trailer. At the trailer launch, Ayushmann said the industry sadly underutilized him and called this a tribute, while director Aakash Kaushik said it is not only Mukul’s last film but his best work — a performance he promised would have the whole country singing his praises.
- It is another Dharma x Sikhya collaboration with a packed ensemble. Presented by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, the film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, and directed by Aakash Kaushik in his feature debut. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe. Music is by Sachin-Jigar with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
