What started as a 9-still collage of Sohail Sameer in a maroon shirt hugging, holding and kissing his co-star turned into a full-blown backlash, because audiences know Sohail from family dramas like Suno Chanda, Tere Bin and Ishq Hua, where he often talks about morality on morning shows.
The clip that went viral is from a suspense-thriller short film called Doosri Aurat, presented by Oriental Entertainment. The scene shows intimate moments with suggestive dialogues, which many users called out as too bold for Pakistani television and said reminded them of Turkish and Indian OTT content.
Sohail has now issued a public apology and clarified the timeline.
He said the project was filmed almost 10 years ago and he never expected material from his past work to reappear like this. In his statement he wrote:
“A heartfelt apology, I sincerely apologize from the depth of my heart to all those who felt hurt, pain, or disappointment because of this viral clip. This clip is almost 10 years old… I realized that I also have a mother, sisters, and daughters in my home… I am truly embarrassed and sorry that I should not have created/done such content at that time, no matter what the circumstances were. It takes years to build respect, but it takes only a moment for it to end. I admit my mistake and am sincerely ashamed of it.”
He also asked people not to judge him solely on the basis of one mistake from his past.
The apology itself split the comments again. A section praised him for owning up publicly, with industry colleagues saying it takes courage to admit a mistake. The other section said an apology after 10 years doesn’t undo the scene, and that actors should think about family audience before signing such projects.
No PEMRA ban has been confirmed yet, but the video remains the most shared Lollywood clip this week.
